Heart of Florida United Way

Success By 6 is a tri-county community collaborative that strives to bring attention and resources to the 0-6 population. Our goal is to make early childhood development a top priority in Orange, Osceola and Seminole Counties. Below is an overview of projects under Success By 6 at Heart of Florida United Way.

Healthy Families

Our Success By 6 established Healthy Families Orange in 1994. Since then we have expanded the project into Osceola and Seminole Counties, and continue to act as the advisory committee for all three programs. The success of these programs helped establish the need for Healthy Families Florida, which drives the success of the program throughout the state.

KidCare

Success By 6 is very involved in KidCare in Orange, Osceola and Seminole County. We work to increase outreach and one-on-one assistance through our funding of Outreach Assistants in each county. We also work at the state level to increase awareness of long-term program needs, and encourage expansion of program services throughout the state.

Foster Care

This is the most recent project under Success By 6, and may be our most challenging to date. Foster Care in District 7 has reached crisis levels, and there seems to be no decrease in the number of children entering care. Our first goal is to increase local awareness of the foster care issue, and encourage more business and individual involvement. We will also increase support for foster families and children in care through our Foster Care Supplies Closet.

School Readiness

Heart of Florida United Way is playing a key role in establishing school readiness coalitions in Orange, Osceola and Seminole Counties. We are working with our local chambers to establish committee membership, and are acting as the fiscal agent for the planning grants in Orange and Osceola Counties. As an objective convenor, we feel our role in keeping children at the forefront of the agenda is critical in this process. This fits well under our Success By 6 as we are preparing children to enter school physically, emotionally, and intellectually ready to learn.

Success By 6 on Channel 6

Success By 6 has partnered with our local CBS station WKMG-TV Channel 6 to produce weekly segments dedicated to educating viewers on the importance of early child development. These news segments cover all topics related to children, from potty training and school readiness to car seat safety and finding quality day care.
